Another Golden Age of Detective Fiction book from the British Library Crime Classics.....this book features a set of short stories from G.K. Chesterton, Arthur Conan Doyle, and others. I thought it would be great for quick reads when I'm short on time. You can't go wrong with the authors in this book.
On the last Stacking the Shelves I posted about book one in this series. Book two is on sale on Kindle this week for just 99 cents so I had to get it! It was the winner of the Davitt Award for Best Adult Novel the year it was written (2016). I am very intrigued by this series and intend to start it this summer. Book two takes place aboard a fancy ship, the RMS Aquitania which is always a plus for me. Australian millionaire Rowland Sinclair, the protagonist and his wealthy friends become embroiled in the 1930's politics of the day and also... several murders. Just my kind of cozy mystery :)
This series interested me because it follows all the events leading up to and involving Agincourt, something I really feel I need to know more about. I am not someone who loves straight history books about battles, too dry. But a series with a main character who lives through the events helps me understand better what the causes and outcomes were. This is book one and there are six total. Each book is titled with a year....1410, 1411, etc. with the main character, Sir James de Grispere, living through all the events.
This author has another series about the American Civil War that looks good as well. It is called the Plainsman Series with more books planned in 2024-2025.
I haven't read Serpents in Eden, but I've read one of the other short story collections in the series and enjoyed it. As you say, you can't go wrong with those classic crime authors!
